So it’s over 60 degrees again here in Boulder today. It’s been in the 60's (with a couple of 70+ degree days as well) for over three weeks now... Very odd behavior for February and March in Colorado. Usually Feb and March are our big snow months... And that snow-pack that we
should
be getting now, is what keeps our forests healthy over the hot, dry summer. (Colorado is classified as a high-alpine desert)
So while the gorgeous weather is great for allowing the bike to be my daily driver for several weeks now, it’s gonna mean some very dry forests in a couple of months.... and that means brutal forest fires wrecking shop on everything.
So, come on Ullr! Make me put the bike away!

Seriously, we need some of that March Magic in Utah too.

yeah, I’ve been pretty concerned about how this summer is going to look with so little snow this year :S

Yup, its making me upset. Cmon the nino, get your butt over here!

There’s still a (pretty good) chance we’ll still get shmucked with snow before it’s over... but it better hurry up....

Totally.... forest fires suck for so many reasons....

What’s the seat height like on a bike like that? also it says Ducati but can you let me know what year and model? That’s a neat looking bike.

perhaps I should take my snow tyres off. like washing your car guarantees it will rain, perhaps taking off snow tyres will ensure it snows

Not sure the seat height exactly.. ~ 33" or so. And while it says Ducati, it’s actually a Cagiva- but Cagiva (being a small boutique builder) used a lot of Duc components (in this bike’s case, it uses a Ducati 900cc motor)... But the bike is ‘94 Cagiva Elefant, originally designed for Paris-Dakar racing - but Ducati imported 200 of them to North America back in the day, calling them Ducati E900's.... I found this one a couple of years ago (they’re pretty rare now) and rebuilt it with a tricked-out Ducati supersport motor.

Ah, thanks— I certainly dig it— but don’t be jelly, it’s just an old beater dirtbike...

Forest fires are terrible...but I’ve really been enjoying this weather.

Nice bike! I always thought the Elefant was a cool motorcycle. What’s it like to ride?

Thanks— and riding it is Fucking Epic. Hahaha... but seriously, it’s one of those vehicles where the stars aligned and it’s just sublime in about every category... I’ve got buddies who have elefants and new KTM adventures, and they still prefer the ‘fants.... They’re also really light too— mine weights about 385 lbs dry... but it’s got about 90+ hp....(and the howl of a ducati motor only adds to it!) So yeah, fucking epic.

Wow, didn’t realize they were that light. I moved from a DR350 supermoto (so much fun, so very slow) to a V-Strom 1000 last year. I like the ‘Strom OK but I can tell I won’t be keeping it long term. I definitely like the extra power but I was on the little DR for so long that I really got used to having a lightweight bike. 90hp in a 385lb package sounds like a riot.

Yeah, total riot. Cool on the supermoto and vstrom... But I hear you on the vstrom, I’ve never driven one, but they do look a bit cumbersome... but they’re still pretty quick!

On the road, it’s actually pretty nimble and easy to handle, but I can imagine things getting out of hand quickly on loose surfaces. In the end, it weighs about 200 pounds more than the DR did and there’s just no way to hide all that extra poundage.
The new Husky supermoto is really catching my interest lately. I would probably lose my license within a week on that thing, though!

Yeah- that’s what I’ve heard about the vstroms, nice bikes, but def more street oriented than off-road. And YES on those new husky’s— they look soooooooo righteous!

A lot of Ducatis look over designed to me but your bike looks insanely clean. Like KTM clean, which is a good thing. I’d hold onto that thing forever if I were you. Once sold, you’d be aching to get it back.
